ARKeX completes largest ever multi-client GGI survey

June 12 2007

ARKeX, the provider of airborne gravity gradient imaging (GGI), has completed the largest ever multi-client GGI survey for JEBCO Seismic in the foothills of British Columbia.

Using the ARKeX BlueQube technology, which combines GGI, magnetic gradiometry, digital terrain mapping (LIDAR) digital video and gravity measurements, ARKeX has surveyed 6,000 km square of prospective acreage for JEBCO. The area in British Columbia, which is known as Muskwa-Kechika, is in the Foothills area of Canada’s Western sedimentary basin. This basin contains some of the highest potential petroleum deposits in all of Western Canada.

Due to the mountainous terrain, a seismic survey would have been prohibitively expensive and taken far longer to complete. JEBCO chose ARKeX not only for the ease with which they could carry out the survey, but for the quality of the data produced.

"ARKeX’s BlueQube gravity gradient surveys provide us and our clients with a greater understanding of the geology in this extremely important area", said Mr. D. Wayne Turner, President of JEBCO. "Not only was the survey cost effective, it has also shown some extremely interesting features that could prove very exciting for our clients".

ARKeX’s Sales VP, Phill Houghton commented, "This survey comes on the back of the successful completion of phase one, that we flew in 2005. From the results of that survey JEBCO were keen for us to fly a wider area". Mr. Houghton noted that the terrain proved to be a real challenge. "With relief up to 1.8km we had to change our working practices and devise new methods of processing and interpretation to get an accurate picture. The results have proved the capabilities of the BlueQube workflow to deliver an extremely high resolution subsurface model even in high terrain".

ARKeX are now set to double capacity in response to customer demand with the introduction of a new aircraft set to be launched this quarter. The results of the Muskwa-Kechika survey are being made available by JEBCO to their clients on a non-exclusive basis. For more details contact Wayne Wheeler at wwheeler@jebcoseis.com
