Enhancing seismic through Comprehensive Geological Modelling
Where isolated or networked 2D seismic data is available potential field data (particularly gravity and gravity gradient data) may be used to constrain the interpolation generating 3D surfaces. Where 3D seismic has imaging problems integration of potential fields driven modelling can assist the development of an Earth model through the region of uncertainty.
Common examples of such work are the use of gravity gradiometry to improve the definition of salt models or fault patterns; magnetic field information is often used to assist in constraining the position of volcanics or basement. Often multiple methods are used together with seismic, borehole and surface geology, to assemble a comprehensive model describing the structural geology of a prospect more
In general this result is achieved through a workflow that involves fixing the model where seismic and borehole information is considered accurate, developing a structural model between constrained locations and adjusting the model such that the calculated potential field matches the observations.
In practice it is often the case that the most efficient way to apply this workflow is to bring in an external consultant to perform this modelling effort. ARKeX can supply such a service with a group of experts whose skills not only encompass the methodology, software and geological awareness but also the ability to work with the asset teams own resources as closely as is required. By tailoring the service to the needs of the asset ARKeX endeavours to develop an effective understanding by the client of the provenance of the integrated model, ensuring 'buy in' to the model by the team that will carry the exploration forward.
